Team Days of Chunder

The rules of the rally were simple:

• Buy an old banger for £100 or less (in our case a dark blue 2.5TD Vauxhall Omega for 85 quid)
• Give the team and car a theme (Lightning McQueen from Cars)
• Get the car to the start line in Calais on Friday 3rd August in one piece, then drive it 1500 miles to Krakow in 4 days, via Strasbourg, Innsbruck and Bratislava (we did it only getting slightly lost along the way!)
• To stay 1 step ahead of the other 100 teams in the daily challenges in a bid to win the prize fund for our chosen charity (we made 8th place in the end which wasn't too bad)

Whilst this was all jolly good fun, we decided to use the opportunity to raise some money for the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust (Astro Fund). You can still  sponsor us at  www.justgiving.com/daysofchunder

If that wasn't crazy enough, we also decided to drive back again via Prague, Hameln (as in the Pied Piper) and Rotterdam - not just to savour the delights of Europe, but in order to raise some more cash by auctioning off the car at the end and donating the proceeds to the charity fund.

We spent about 10 weeks fixing up and adding the theme to the Omega and turned it into 'Lightning McQueen' from the film 'Cars', which has involved more than 500 hours of combined work.

In total we covered over 2800 miles and drove through 8 countries (France, Switzerland, Austria, Slovakia, Poland, Czech Republic, Germany and Rotterdam)
